The English and Communications Department at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College has announced the winners of RCCC’s fourth annual Literary Awards competition.
The awards are given to first- and second-year writing students who display exemplary writing skills in their composition and creative writing courses. The winners will be recognized at an upcoming Board of Trustees meeting, where they will receive a framed certificate and $50 prize.
Fiction
Clifton (Randy) Lamm earned first place for his prose, “Dear Diary.” Lamm is an associate degree college transfer student from Concord, planning to major in education. He was enrolled in the Creative Writing I course, under the tutelage of instructor Jeannine Jordan Hogue.
Essay
Eva Angelisanti was selected for her prose, “The Voice Within.” Angelisanti is an associate degree college transfer student from Granite Quarry. She was enrolled in Expository Writing, under the guidance of instructor Betty H. Stack.
Poetry
Kathleen Baines claimed first place for her poem, “Rest Home Grasshopper.” Baines is a fine arts and general transfer major from Concord. She was enrolled in Creative Writing I, under instructor LaNita Kirby.
Honorable mention
Raheed MI Hasan received an honorable mention for his work, “In American We Are Innocent.” Hasan is a general education student from Salisbury. He studied writing under instructor Stack.
Jennifer Engelhaupt also received an honorable mention Award for her poem, “Ode to A Butterfly.” Engelhaupt is an associate in arts major from Concord and studied in Kirby’s Creative Writing I Class.
