CONCORD ó Cannon School will host the Fall 2011 Area Toastmasters Speech and Evaluation Contest.
Speakers and evaluators, representing four Toastmasters Clubs from Rowan, Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties, will compete at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
ěSpeech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year thousands of Toastmasters compete in the Humorous Speech and Evaluation contests,î said Ted Thomas, vice president of membership for Yawn Patrol Zone Club.
Competition begins with club contests, and winners compete in the area, division and district levels.
The Toastmasters Educational Program is the heart of every Toastmasters club. It provides members with a proven curriculum that develops communication and leadership skills one step at a time, in a safe place, and includes many opportunities for awards and recognition along the way.
ěCompeting in a speech contest just seemed part of the natural progression of developing solid communication skills,î Thomas said. ěMy experiences and education in Toastmasters helped prepare me, not only for this contest, but also gives me more confidence in the business world.î
The Yawn Patrol Zone Club is hosting this contest which is a public event. Interested guests should RSVP by calling Thomas at 704-433-2791 or email gotpeers@ live.com .
