MOORESVILLE — Two men were shot Saturday night at a motorcycle gathering at the Mooresville Dragway.
Their injuries weren’t considered life threatening, according to Detective Chad Moose of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. He said the incident looked to be domestic related.
The first reports of gunfire at 155 Wilkinson Road just off N.C. 152 were called into law enforcement about 10:40 p.m. Two medical helicopters were quickly called in to take the victims to the hospital.
One victim suffered a neck injury. The other had gunshot wounds to the abdomen and hand. Both were shot while standing near the restroom facilities. Both were conscious as they awaited the arrival of helicopters from Carolinas Medical Center. The patients were loaded on the helicopters about 11:30 p.m. to be taken to the hospital.
Law enforcement officers were on the lookout for a suspect described as a black male weighing about 210 pounds with dreadlocks. He was first believed to be traveling in Chevrolet Monte Carlo but that was later changed to a green Chevrolet Nova with 20-inch wheels.
Deputies were still trying to get more information from witnesses about the shooting and the gunman after midnight.
The 16th annual Spring Fling Bike Fest was the name of the event at the dragway, according to www.thecarolinarider.com.
