A Salisbury man is hosting a fundraiser Saturday in memory of his wife who died in a drunk driving accident in 1993.
Lee Cooper is inviting people to dine at Quaker Steak & Lube, 7731 Gateway Lane NW in Concord, all day. He’ll be there handing out flyers that can be used to send 20 percent of their bill to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Cooper, who suffered a traumatic brain injury from the accident, will also be raising money for MADD through a bike ride that kicks off April 2.
He’ll travel to Wilmington and Myrtle Beach before heading back to Salisbury.
Cooper expects the ride will take him a total of 17 days.
A sign that bears the message “Stop, Think & Give up your keys” will be affixed to the back of his bicycle.
Those who wish to support the ride can call MADD at 919-787-6599 or mail a check marked “Lee Cooper in memory of Lisa Cooper” to 5104 Western Blvd. B, Raleigh, NC 27606.
