Ministers, educators, a woman whose dissertation was on her father and a man who began teaching at age 20 and was a principal for more than 25 years will be among those honored Thursday night at a Livingstone College-sponsored United Negro College Fund event.
The 12th Annual “A Service in Celebration of Livingstone College Leaders” Hall of Fame banquet, to benefit the UNCF, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Event Center on Webb Road.
Tickets for the black-tie event are $100 for general seating, $150 for reserved seating and $1,200 for sponsor’s tables, which seat eight.
The UNCF “Share Your Love” banquet, as it’s commonly called, is one of Livingstone College’s most popular fundraisers and contributes money each year to the United Negro College Fund, of which Livingstone is a proud member institution.
Livingstone College UNCF Director Deborah F. Johnson said this year’s honorees represent an outstanding group of people who have shown their dedication and commitment to Livingstone College and to being servant leaders.
“The individuals being honored on Thursday night have given tirelessly of themselves as they serve their communities and/or their professions,” Johnson said. “They have demonstrated the exemplary qualities inherent in servant leaders, and we are proud to recognize them. Each of them has left an indelible mark in her or his unique way.”
Most of the honorees are Livingstone graduates. They are: Dr. Elaine J. Copeland, ’64; Mrs. DeLores Pouncey Guy, ’67; Mrs. JoAnn B. Holmes, ’60; Mrs. Delores McDowell Johnson, ’69; Dr. Joy Gabriella Kinard, ’98; The Rev. Michael J. Massey, Sr., ’91; The Rev. George E. McKain, II, ’80; Mrs. Mildred R. McLean; The Rev. Dr. Karen Roberts Miller, ’89; Mrs. Vivian Lee Brown Morrison, ’64; Mr. Elijah Peterson, ’56; Mr. Ervin D. and Mrs. Joyce A. Reid; Ms. Catherine J. Rivens, ’63; and Dr. Jerry Wiley, ’70.
