CLEVELAND — Richard Taylor says he’s running for town commissioner not to make big changes in Cleveland but to help continue the board’s good work.
Taylor, 55, of Third Creek Church Road, filed for Cleveland Town Commissioner on July 5. He will be competing against three incumbents and another challenger in the municipal election on Nov. 5.
“I am running because I have always been interested in small town operations,” he wrote to the Salisbury Post. “My priorities are to continue with what the present board has done, which is making Cleveland a great town to live in.”
Taylor, a graduate of East Rowan High School, has been a cabinetmaking instructor at West Rowan High School for 24 years.
He earned an associate’s degree in law enforcement from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Pfieffer College. He also has a North Carolina teacher’s certification in trade and industry, drafting and design and technology education.
Taylor is a member of Third Creek Presbyterian Church and a board member of the Salisbury-Rowan Runners. He and his wife, Julie, have one daughter.
