Authorities say missing 12-year-old Allen Anderson was found this morning less than two miles from his 22nd Street home in Kannapolis.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the home in the 1000 block of East 22nd Street around 6 p.m. on Thursday to search for the boy, who had last been seen two hours prior. Deputies responded with K-9s to search the area on Thursday but did not locate Anderson.

A woman called around 8 a.m. this morning to say she believed the missing child was sleeping under her porch in the 1000 block of Cherry Brook Court, which is about 1.5 miles from the Anderson home.

Anderson had gotten into trouble at school and the family had discussions with him about it. He took off with a backpack, a sleeping bag and a flashlight, said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

The woman under whose porch he was sleeping called Anderson’s mother and asked her about the color of his sleeping bag — red and green. She confirmed it was Anderson. He’s fine and returned home, Sifford said.
