More than 230 students from Sacred Heart Catholic School recently took part in creating the annual Living Rosary. They were joined by their teachers, parents and parishioners. The Rosary is a popular Catholic devotion that consists of 150 recitations of the Hail Mary prayer while meditating on the life of Jesus. It was popularized more than 800 years ago by St. Dominic as a way for people who could not read or afford books to participate in the Church’s constant praying of the Bible’s 150 Psalms. The school’s annual Living Rosary is a way for students to actively pray this ancient Christian prayer. The students line up in the shape of a beaded rosary, as older students take turns leading the prayers while the younger students release balloons to symbolize the prayers going to Heaven.
