SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman was killed Sunday after her vehicle went airborne and struck another vehicle head-on on North Main Street.

According to Salisbury police spokesman Lt. Lee Walker, speed and impairment are believed to be factors.

Shannon Jeanette Watson, 46, of Kesler Street, was traveling northbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Captiva when her vehicle went airborne over railroad tracks, Walker said.

He said the vehicle traveled 60 feet before it landed. Watson’s vehicle traveled left of center and struck a 2006 Toyota Avalon then ran off the road and struck a tree.

The Avalon was driven by a Salisbury woman who also had an 8-year-old passenger. Both the woman and the child were not injured, just shaken up, Walker said.

Drugs and alcohol are suspected, Walker said, but the investigators won’t know until an autopsy is performed. According to witnesses, Watson was traveling an estimated 60 to 70 mph leading up to the railroad tracks.
