SALISBURY – Proms and graduations are likely to be affected by ongoing, mandated school closures, and teacher certifications may change slightly, too.

Teachers who need to renew their certification will receive a notification from N.C. Department of Public Instruction, login, pay the $35 renewal fee and answer some questions before the information is sent back to the HR Department, where it will confirm a teacher meets all the renewal requirements before returning the information to DPI.

“We have all the tools that we need to do our jobs from home, so really nothing is going to change from the teacher’s perspective,” McDowell said. “Instead of us physically doing the work in Wallace we’ll be doing it from home.”

McDowell said she has not received any questions from employees about how the closure will affect them and otherwise the department is still making its normal services available to them, including working through the insurance with new employees.

“It may just look like, rather than an in person meeting, a Zoom meeting or an email,” McDowell said.
