SPENCER — Spencer police have still not identified a man who was killed in a Tuesday moped accident on North Salisbury Avenue until they contact his nearest relatives.

The single-vehicle crash occurred Tuesday at 2:55 p.m. at 419 N. Salisbury Ave., near Jefferson Avenue. According to Spencer Police spokesman 1st Sgt. M.N. Brigman, a witness said the moped operator looked over his shoulder before leaving the road to the right and struck the utility pole.

The operator died at the scene, Brigman confirmed. Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Seamon told a Post reporter on Tuesday that the fire department provided medical aid until Rowan EMS arrived and took over care. The crash is still being investigated.

Responding units included Spencer Police Department, Spencer Fire Department, East Spencer Police Department and Rowan County Emergency Medical Services.
