Letter: Thankful for donations of aluminum cans

Published 12:00 am Sunday, December 1, 2019

We would like to thank each person who saves aluminum cans for Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary as well as all the businesses and Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post for allowing us to collect aluminum cans on their property.

As volunteers, we don’t see the many nice people who drop off cans at our “can kennels” daily, but we want you to know we do not take it for granted. In our 11th year of recycling aluminum cans for the animals, every cent continues to go toward helping provide for the needs of sweet dogs and cats waiting to be adopted.

Just a tip: While the Rowan County recycling sites cannot accept strands of unwanted or burnt-out Christmas tree lights, you can drop them off at the Faithful Friends aluminum can drop-off spots around Salisbury. Faithful Friends can recycle them.

The drop-off sites at Uptown Dogs and Cats Grooming on Statesville Boulevard and on Brenner Avenue at the Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post are accessible 24/7.

The complete list of drop-off spots and addresses is at faithfulfriendsnc.org/can-team-collections-and- information.

The lights must be bagged separately from aluminum cans left in the “can kennels.” The lights will be kept out of landfills and used for a good cause. Every bit helps and is appreciated.

As a reminder, we are not able to recycle human vegetable cans, dog food cans or any plastic bottles.

Faithful Friends can always use volunteers to help the no-kill animal sanctuary in all types of capacities. The first step is completing an application, which can be found on its website or picked up at the sanctuary.

Animals are cared for 365 days a year, and the sanctuary exists through private fundraisers and donations. Faithful Friends doesn’t receive any federal, state or county government funding. So every dollar raised helps.
