Salisbury Police say a woman who caused a wrong-way collision on the interstate early Sunday refused to stop for police after an officer noticed she crossed the center line.
Katrina Oxendine, 27, of Lincolnton Road, Salisbury, ran from police shortly before 2:30 a.m. She was intoxicated and driving a stolen vehicle, authorities said.
She drove south in the northbound lane in the Cabarrus County area before colliding head on with a Virgina man and his son. “She was driving left of center and with no tag,” said Police Chief Mark Wilhelm.
When an officer attempted to stop Oxendine, she accelerated away. Officers in pursuit of Oxendine clocked her going 115 mph. The chase ensued at South Main Street and Sunset Drive.
The car was reported stolen from a home on Dan Street, Wilhelm said.
Oxendine drove the stolen Dodge Intrepid onto Interstate 85 via Peeler Road, eventually colliding with a van driven by the Virginia man.
Oxendine received minor cuts to her face, according highway patrol trooper R.E. Cook.
The driver of the other vehicle, Darell Clark received no injuries. His son, Thomas, received a sprained ankle and an injury to his hand.
Oxendine was charged with reckless driving and driving while impaired. The Salisbury Police are likely to charge Oxendine with possession of a stolen vehicle and felony fleeing to elude arrest.
