Rowan weather: Winter weather advisory tonight through Wednesday

Rowan County is under a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. tonight to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Freezing rain and sleet may start late today, then change to all freezing rain for a period on Wednesday.

The advisory means road conditions will make travel difficult with slippery roads and the possibility of downed limbs and power lines.

Today will be mostly cloudy and 44, with east northeast wind around 7 mph. We have a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after 4 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch is expected.

Tonight has an 80 percent chance of rain, mainly after 7 p.m. With a low of 32, some of that could be freezing rain. Winds will be east northeast at 6-9 mph. A tenth to quarter inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday starts with rain or freezing rain, which will change to all rain after noon. Look for patchy fog. The high will be 37, with north northeast wind at 6-8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, but little ice accumulation is expected.

Wednesday night also has an 80 percent chance of rain and a low of 36, with patchy fog before 8 p.m. North northeast wind around 5 mph will calm in the evening. Another tenth to quarter inch of rain is possible.

Thursday’s chance of rain will be 60 percent, with rain before 4 p.m., then showers, then rain again. It will be cloudy and 53, with west southwest wind around 5 mph. Thursday night will have a 50 percent chance of rain. It will be cloudy and 45.

Friday has a 70 percent chance of rain. It will be cloudy and 52. The chance of rain increases to 80 percent Friday night, with a low of 42.

Saturday has a 60 percent chance of rain, mainly before 1 p.m. It will be cloudy and 49. The low will be just 46, with a 50 percent chance of rain.

Sunday, the high shoots up to 70, but we’ll still have a 60 percent chance of rain. Sunday night will be partly cloudy and 42.

Monday, finally, should be mostly sunny and 62.
