  SBI investigating Landis finances …

I guess the “fake news” isn’t so fake after all.

— Kenny Goodman

Holy cow! What’s going on in Landis? Hopefully the board, the SBI, and all investigating parties can achieve a quick resolution, sparing the town further humiliation. My prayers are with all the residents, the mayor and the Board of Aldermen.

— Becki Edwards

SBI looking at unnamed third person

Everything you do in the dark will eventually come out in the light.

— Susan Stokes   Shirley

I was the first female alderman for the town and I have a lot to say, but only to the SBI. Mayor Mike Mahaley cannot be trusted.

— Lisa Propst

After the new “smart meters” were installed two years ago, I met with three officials from the town of Landis about my 500 percent increase in my electric bill. Reed Linn was the last one I spoke to, and as with the others, could not offer any explanation.

— Terry Rollins Sr.

There are plenty of “holes” to fill. Our streets have looked like a war zone for years.

— Ron Turbyfill

The entire governing body of Landis needs to be investigated.

— Janice Lipe

Mark Wineka:
Life’s parade passes through Spencer …

This is such a fitting tribute to a man who loved his community and his fellow man.

— Mary Putnam         Gilbert Little

Clyde Miller also was a member of Spencer Moose Lodge where he also served as past governor.

— Lynn Earnhardt Coughenour

Clyde was a true gentleman of days past. I will miss him each week as I see his empty spot in the congregation. I am so grateful he was part of my life.

— Jennifer Crawford

Clyde Miller was a true pillar of the Spencer community. He will be missed.

— Jeff Morris

Josh Bergeron: Years later, bills still an issue in Landis

Residents can’t afford to live in Landis anymore. The power bills are outrageous. What used to be a great town is no longer. It is very sad.

— Selina Hamrick

Editorial: Landis board should take cue from investigators

Maybe it’s time for the state to revoke the town’s charter and unincorperate it. Turn the power distribution system over to Duke Energy, let Kannapolis supply water and sewer and disband the police department. Go back to a volunteer fire department. Everyone’s taxes and utilities would drop tremendously.

Thelma’s reopens after brief closure …

I am so very happy for her as she continues her passion — cooking and enjoying every bit of it.

— Tangy Hubbard Roseborough

We just moved here and will definitely be stopping by.

— Jacqui James

Thelma Luckey is an amazing lady in every aspect and one of the hardest-working women I know. She has blessed many, including myself. Her cooking is the best. You won’t walk away hungry if you visit Thelma’s Down Home Cooking, and you will be going back for more.

— Erica C Miller

Colin Campbell: Legislators should say who’s paying them

Yes, a full-time legislature could help to put an end to what looks like outside political influences.

Both at the state and federal levels, there must be an end to big money from unknown sources, buying politicians and their votes while ignoring the will of the people whom they should serve.

— Pat Bullard

… Sharon Hovis wants her job to have meaning

What a terrific role model for youngsters. She is always working for the betterment of the communities. Thank you for your service, Chief Hovis.

— George W. Benson

Rowan IDEA Center asks City Council
for funding

We have a great opportunity to open ourselves to innovation and creativity. Who knows where the next start-up hits a home run? The seeds we plant today could lead to huge returns down the road.

— Skip Wood

Salisbury needs commuter rail to Charlotte.

— James Bostwick

I applaud Addison Davis and Brad Walser. They are doing the heavy lifting here.

Unfortunately, Salisbury has a track record of not supporting such entities.

About three years ago, there were two organizations that were intersted in creating an innovation or incubator center. Both were willing to pay rent and develop the centers. One was going to be downtown. All that was needed was a little bit of updating to the building. That was turned down. We also had people move here from the West Coast. They moved away when there was no interest in helping them develop opportunities.

— Kent Winrich

Every community across America realizes the vital importance of incubators in creating and keeping jobs local. Salisbury and Rowan County need to be proactive in this space, as it feels like the rest of the country is passing us by.

— Mikey Wetzel

The IDEA Center is leveraging a model that has already been implemented very successfully across the nation, including in communities such as Winston-Salem and Davidson. Rowan has the ingredients to make this work too; the IDEA Center is the critical ingredient remaining to complete the recipe.

— Gil Zino

… Bill to provide information about stopping abortions

Keep your religion out of politics and stop trying to force your views on others. You couldn’t even start to understand what women go through.

— Joanne Bryla

Redistricting reformers hopeful about legislation …

For Republicans, this might be their last best chance to see this commission put into place.

There are already rumors and rumblings that the GOP believes it could very well lose the General Assembly in 2020.

This would give the Democrats control of the next round of redistricting.

— Eric Shock

… On social media, Ford ignores facts

My father (a conservative) taught me that a man is only as good as his integrity. Truth is vital to public health. Ignoring science, ignoring factual data, ignoring justice can only lead to societal failure.

— Donna Davis Prunkl
