College basketball: Catawba men rout Coker, 106-72

SALISBURY — Catawba men’s basketball coach Rob Perron expressed concerns before Wednesday’s South Atlantic Conference game against Coker at Goodman Gym.
Players out. Players hurt. Players sick.
But Catawba has unusual depth this season, and even with Daquan Lilly and Carter Phillips on the shelf, the Indians blasted Coker, 106-72.
Catawba led 49-28 at halftime.
Catawba (12-2, 5-1) put six men in double figures.
Jordan McElveen scored 21. Jameel Taylor had 15. Tae Cannon scored 14. Terrence Whitfield had 12, and Marcell Haskett and an under-the-weather Jordan McLaughlin scored 10 each.
MeElveen had 10 rebounds, while Ben Zemonek had seven.
Devin Cooper, Jordan Barber and Zemonek had four assists each.
Catawba shot 47 percent from the field and was 26-for-31 on free throws.
Khalil Halls scored 18 to lead Coker (3-10, 1-5)
There aren’t many easy games in the SAC, but this one turned out to be mostly a dress rehearsal for Saturday’s big home game at 4 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial.
