SALISBURY — The October issue of Salisbury the Magazine, a publication of the Salisbury Post, has reached subscribers and is being distributed throughout Rowan County this week.

Copies — and back copies — also are available at the circulation desk in the Salisbury Post lobby, 131 W. Innes St.

The October cover features the body of a fiddle, referencing a feature story on a youthful bluegrass band named One Fret Over. The band members include Gabe and Grace Bemus of Salisbury, along with Elijah and Lincoln Moore of Kernersville.

Other features include Elizabeth Cook’s visit to the Across the Pond Bed & Breakfast on North Fulton Street and an interesting tour of the home with owners Mary and Andrew Walker.

Jenny Hubbard, a local author, took a side trip on a recent vacation to the 800-year-old Salisbury Cathedral in England. She writes about her insider’s tour of the cathedral and shares some photographs.

In advance of OctoberTour, the magazine met with Robb and Lorraine Rodd, who recently relocated from Australia and are in the process of restoring the Eagle-Burdette House in Spencer. Their home will be on this year’s OctoberTour.

Shavonne Walker writes about the intriguing art of New York’s Jeffrey Hargrave, who grew up in Salisbury and benefited from many supporters back home.

The magazine also recounts the motorcycle-touring days of Bob and Margie Shoaf, who in retirement have crossed the United States 10 times on Honda Gold Wings.

Andie Foley gets readers up to speed on local pimento cheese but does it without rhyming. She also throws questions to Rowan County Manager Aaron Church, who is this issue’s Rowan Original.

Deirdre Parker Smith provides three reading recommendations in Bookish. Mark Brincefield lends one of his watercolors for Salisbury’s the Place, and besides supplying most of the photographic images for the October issue, Jon C. Lakey also has a terrific Through the Lens offering.

As usual, you can find dates for community events in the October calendar and maybe see a friend or neighbor in Scene photographs from Blankets & Bluegrass, the Rowan Chamber’s campaign kickoff, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Salisbury-Rowan Sports Hall of Fame and the Woodleaf Tomato Festival.

Salisbury the Magazine publishes nine times a year. To advertise or subscribe, visit the Post, contact 704-797-POST or go to www.SalisburyThe Magazine.com.
