Bush incompetent? Consider ObamaThe Saturday (May 23) editorial page had a column by Leonard Pitts, the Miami Herald’s most outspoken liberal.
Are libs ever happy? After all, they won the national election. They can do whatever they want. Why persecute Bush? I think it’s because liberals are never happy, regardless whether they win or lose.
It’s hard for Republicans to work with liberals because compromise is when you agree with their position. Otherwise, you’re an extremist, or a racist, especially if you oppose what Obama does.
This brings to mind Mr. Pitts’ observation that Bush is incompetent.
Let’s examine the incompetence of Obama. He has spent more money in his first 100 days than any president in the nation’s history, with little to show for it. Not only is he incompetent but extremely extreme. He is so far left of center that if the Earth was flat, he would fall off the other side.
Pitts trots out Bush’s supposed sins ó Katrina, Iraq, torture, politicizing the Justice Department. People suffered from Katrina because the New Orleans Democratic elected officials failed to take care of their own people, and then the Louisiana Democratic governor refused help when Bush called before the storm to suggest maybe the National Guard could help.
Now Iraq: For the sake of discussion, let’s say Iraq was a mistake. We were wrong to liberate Iraqis from their devil. But you say, “We lost so many lives!” We lost more lives on highways this year than we lost in the war.
The torture question (water boarding) is only considered torture by Democrats and moderates who don’t know better.
The Justice Department: Bush fired a few lawyers and replaced them with ones he wanted. Clinton fired all of them when he came to office.
Mr. Pitts reminds me of the Tin Man in the “Wizard of Oz” ó “if only he had a brain.”

The NAACP & ACC
Regarding the recent article about the NAACP condemning the Atlantic Coast Conference for bringing its baseball tournament back to South Carolina:
I would like to know what the Confederate flag has to do with the ACC. Is it not the right of everyone to attend any function they wish to attend? Is the NAACP going to ban black bike week or any other function that black people choose to attend? Is the NAACP going to ban rentals of houses and hotel rooms to black people in South Carolina?
I believe it is their right as citizens of the United States to attend any function, anywhere that they wish. Is the NAACP going to insist that no black people live, work or attend college in South Carolina? This is the year 2009, and it should not be up to one small group to decide for the masses how they live their lives. I’m sure with all the problems of today that most people have more important things to worry about than a flag. The NAACP needs to repect other people’s right to choose. You have to give respect to earn respect. Just let them play ball and keep politics out of it.

Going backward
I have lived 74 years. During this time, I have seen lots of changes. Science fiction has become reality. I thank God I was born an American. I love this country. I don’t love what it is becoming.
Never have I seen evil so prevalent and so widely accepted as it is today. We have made great progress in material things, but in morality we have gone backwards. God is warning us in many different ways, and if we don’t pay attention, we will pay the price. Do not be amazed at the trials and troubles this country is facing. This is just the beginning. As we sow, we shall surely reap.
If we as a country will repent, ask God for mercy and forgiveness and live as He would have us to, we will survive. If we continue as we are going, we are headed for destruction.
We make much ado about the Ten Commandments. All we have to do is follow the commandment Jesus gave us: Love the Lord God with all your mind and heart and other people as yourself. Just imagine what a wonderful world there would be if everyone did that.
However, given our sinful nature, this will not happen. May God have mercy on us all.
