Rowan weather: Relatively calm before the storm

As of 5 a.m., Hurricane Florence has shifted its path more to the south, meaning we will be in for very heavy rain and possible high winds.

Today will be mostly cloudy and 84, with isolated showers this morning, then a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9 a.m. Northeast wind will be at 3-7 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Tonight will have a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then isolated showers. It will be mostly cloudy and 70, with northeast wind around 6 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected. Patchy fog will form around 1 a.m.

We have just a 20 percent chance of showers Thursday between 1 and 4 p.m., then a chance of thunderstorms after 4. It will be partly sunny and 84, with north northeast wind at 8-14 mph, with gusts up to 24 mph.

Thursday night also has a 20 percent chance of showers. It will be mostly cloudy and 71. North northeast wind will be a 13-15 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph.

Friday will be partly sunny and 82, with north wind at 15-18 mph and gusts as high as 29 mph. There will be a 40 percent chance of showers, then thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
