SALISBURY — The September issue of Salisbury the Magazine, a publication of the Salisbury Post, reached subscribers early last week and has been distributed throughout Rowan County the past couple of days.

Copies (and back copies) are available at the circulation desk in the Salisbury Post lobby at 131 W. Innes St.

The September cover features the craftsmanship of Arnold Hatley, who transforms disposed silverware into interesting works of art. A closer look at Hatley’s story and his “heavy metal” work follows inside the edition.

Other feature articles include a visit to the Paradox Farm of Nancy Faller and Joe Martin, a pair of anesthesiologists whose big spread in Davie County has become a nonprofit foundation dedicated to the rescue and care of all types of animals.

September is fast becoming one of the more popular wedding months, and the magazine describes the services and array of items offered for a bride and a couple’s registry at Caniche’s Bridal Room in downtown Salisbury.

In the Food department, the magazine traveled to Proper restaurant in Boone, where owner-operator Angela Kelly, who grew up in Salisbury, serves delicious and “proper” Southern food.

In Wellness, the September issue stops in and digs deep with the folks at Salisbury Therapeutic Massage Therapy. In the At Home section, Karen Windate opens the doors to her Turn of the Century bed and breakfast on South Fulton Street.

Late summer is a time for harvesting vegetables from the garden and canning for winter. Three ladies at Organ Lutheran Church did just that, demonstrating how they canned close to 300 jars of vegetables from the church’s own garden.

The jars will be sold at a fall bazaar to raise money for Organ Lutheran’s charity and mission work.

Catawba College head football coach Curtis Walker is the magazine’s Rowan Original in September, the full-fledged start of the football season. You’ll find three reading recommendations in Bookish, an interesting Through the Lens photograph by Jon C. Lakey and a Salisbury’s the Place watercolor contributed by Joyce Cavanagh-Wood.

Look for friends and neighbors in Scene pictures from the R.A. Clement School reunion, Faith Fourth of July parade, Rowan Arts & Ag Tour, Novant Health Rowan’s donor appreciation dinner and Kidsbloom at Salisbury Academy.

A calendar of September events also is included.

Salisbury the Magazine publishes nine times a year.
