All-County Scholars from North Rowan High School.

Coby Weant

Coby Weant is the son of Scott and Teresa Weant of Salisbury. A senior at North Rowan High School, he attended Handford Dole Elementary School and North Rowan Middle School.

In the fall, he will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he will study political science. He hopes to become a lawyer at a large firm or to open his own practice.

Favorite assigned book: “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury.

Defining moment in my life: A few years ago I had to quit competing in sports due to health issues, but as a result, I was able to realize and focus on how blessed I was academically.

Secret to high school success: Surrounding myself with ambitious, driven friends who share my desire to be successful.

If I had $10 million: I would put the majority of it in the bank and forget about it until after college.

Alexandra Grace Burnham

Alexandra Grace Burnham is the daughter of Juliet and Gary Burnham of Spencer. A senior at North Rowan, she attended Overton Elementary School and North Rowan Middle School.

In the fall, she will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she will study economics and political science.

Favorite assigned book: “Humans” by Matt Reid.

Defining moment in my life: When I received my acceptance to Carolina. It was confirmation that all of my hard work in school and dedication to my extracurricular has paid off.

Secret to high school success: Time management. It allowed me to never spread myself too thin and devote the right amount of time to my obligations.

If I had $10 million: I would pay off my student loans, donate $2 million to charities focusing on education and youth, then use the remaining money to set up a comfortable life for me and my family.

Taylor Breanna Walker

Taylor Breanna Walker is the daughter of Jennifer and Bradley Walker of Woodleaf. A senior at North Rowan, she attended Hanford Dole Elementary School and North Rowan Middle School.

In the fall, she will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she will study education. She plans to become an elementary school teacher.

Favorite assigned book: “Of Mice and Men,” by John Steinbeck.

Secret to high school success: Hard work, dedication and trusting in God.

If I had $10 million: I would buy my parents a house and invest in my own business to sell my artwork. With the leftover money I’d put it away for my future children.

Xochiltl Nunez-Ariza

Xochiltl Nunez-Ariza is the daughter of Elizabet Rodriguez and Francisco Martinez of Salisbury. A senior at North Rowan, she attended Hanford Dole Elementary School and North Rowan Middle School.

In the fall, she will attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she will study nursing. She plans to become a pediatric oncologist.

Favorite assigned reading: “The Road Not Taken,” by Robert Frost.

Defining moment in my life: Becoming a licensed CNA and Nail Technician along with many other recognitions in my senior year.

Secret to high school success: The secret to success is to be focused and driven. Be a person of your word. Worry about accomplishing your goals rather than feeding into high school drama. Lastly, treat others the way you wish to be treated.
If I had $10 million: I would open up a bakery for my mom, set aside money schooling (for my siblings too), and lastly I would donate a huge chunk to kids with cancer who are unable to afford the treatment costs.
