Ledford swept the Central Carolina Conference Track and Field Championships at Oak Grove.

Salisbury’s boys scored 81 points and finished fourth. Tyrone Johnson won the 200-meter dash for the Hornets and took second in the long jump and 100. Christian Morgan, a freshman won the 300 hurdles and placed second in the 110 hurdles.

Hornets Tyvion Wood and Kemuel Sloan finished 3-4 in the triple jump. Gabriel  Clark was fourth in the discus.

South Rowan finished seventh with 30 points.

  South’s Scott Stephens was fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200. South freshman Noah Julian took fourth in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600.

South Rowan’s girls placed sixth with 61 points.  Madison Lowery won the 1600 and took second in the 3200.  Janiya Downs won the long jump. Bailee Elliott was fourth in the 800 and 1600.

Salisbury’s girls scored 47 points for eighth place.

Salisbury’s Lexie May won the discus.

Leah Cressler had a big meet for the Hornets. She was third in the 800 and 1600 and fourth in the 3200.

NiTavia Corpening had a third for the Hornets in the long jump. Salisbury also got a third in the shot put from Ma’chte Damon.

A.L. Brown’s boys scored 165 points to win the South Piedmont Conference Championships.

Cox Mill was second with 102 points.

A.L. Brown’s Josh Parks had a phenomenal meet, winning four individual events. He took the 400, 110 hurdles, triple jump and high jump and was named MVP for field events.

Wonder Jalen Neal was MVP for sprints. He won the 100 and 200, anchored a 4×400 win and ran on a second-place 4×200 unit.

A.L. Brown’s Brandon Hernandez made it a clean sweep for meet MVPs by taking distance honors. Hernandez took the 800, 1600 and 3200.

Nick Lyerly gave the Wonders another win in the long jump.

Cox Mill won the girls meet with 165 points. Northwest Cabarrus, led by distance MVP Ashleigh Thomson, was second with 125.

A.L. Brown was fifth. Akeena Maxwell won the 100, was second in the 200 and ran on a winning 4×200 unit.

West Forsyth romped in the Central Piedmont Conference Championships.

Davie County’s girls placed fourth, while Davie’s boys were sixth.

DC’s Liz Crenshaw won the long jump. DC’s Jared Dequenne won the 400.

Prep softball

Davie County clobbered Glenn, 11-1, in a Central Piedmont Conference Tournament semifinal on  Thursday.

Sydney Wyatt drove in four runs to back strong pitching by River Simpson.

Davie plays for the championship tonight against West Forsyth  — at East Forsyth.

Prep tennis

Carson’s boys fell to undefeated Burlington Williams, 7-2, in the first round of the 3A dual team state playoffs on Wednesday.

Prep soccer

East Rowan’s Lauren Weisensel made 23 saves in an 8-0 North Piedmont Conference loss to South Iredell on Thursday.

Weisensel made 234 saves this season and has 921 for her career.

East seniors Alexis Avalos, Haley Huffman, Carlee Lowry and Hollie Harrison were honored and ended their careers.

West Rowan finished the season with a 3-0 loss to North Iredell on Thursday.

Mid. school baseball

Titus Brooks and Koen Franz scattered three hits in a four-inning game as West Rowan beat North Rowan, 20-3, on Thursday.

Lucas Graham had three hits for the Bulldogs, while Noah Loeblein had two. West (10-2) plays a doubleheader at home against Mooresville on Tuesday.

College hoops

The Davidson County Community College men’s basketball program announced the signing of Larry Borland, a 6-foot-6 forward from R.J. Reynolds.

“Larry has length, athleticism and seems extremely eager to be coached and held accountable to a high standard of excellence,” DCCC coach Matt Ridge said.

Borland averaged 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds for an 18-9 team.

College golf

  The UNC Greensboro men’s golf team, which includes freshman Nick Lyerly (East Rowan) was selected to compete in the Stockton, Calif., Regional as the No. 11 seed the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

The Spartans will compete with 12 other teams in the region at The Reserve at Spanos Park from May 14-16.  Joining UNCG in the region are No. 1 seed LSU and No. 2, Alabama.

Richmond’s women’s team will head to the   Don Veller Seminole Golf Course & Club in Tallahassee, Fla., for regional play.

Junior Isabella Rusher (Salisbury) is a member of the Spiders’ team.

Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS—  Lincoln Henzman allowed just three hits over seven innings, leading the Kannapolis Intimidators over the Hickory Crawdads in a 7-5 win on Thursday. With the victory, the Intimidators swept the three-game series.

Henzman (2-2) picked up the win after he struck out six while allowing one run.

Kannapolis batted around in the third inning, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs, including a two-run home run by Tate Blackman and a solo home run by Evan Skoug.
