Agencies find ways to help homeless pets
I wanted to let people know what great agencies we have here in Rowan County that care for animals. A female dog and her three pups were found where I work right before New Year’s Eve. No one could take them home due to lease restrictions or not having room for them or other reasons. I called several humane societies and Faithful Friends. No one had any room or foster homes that could provide the dog a warm place.
However, Rose from the Rowan County Humane Society brought an Igloo dog house filled with hay and a large box of assorted foods and treats. We set it up under a building to keep the dogs from the wind. It was to be brutally cold that evening. We returned to work on Friday after New Year’s and found her to be OK. Later that morning, I got a call from Ann with Faithful Friends, and she said she just had to do the right thing; she came to pick up the dog and the pups to keep them in her already full house. What a blessing these two agencies were to this poor dog.
I received pictures from Ann the following week that showed a warm and much improved dog. She had been underweight and trying to feed her pups, and in less than a week she had already filled out due to the excellent care she received. Thank you to the Rowan County Humane Society and Faithful Friends for such loving care. I urge everyone to please support these two agencies so that they can continue to provide God’s creatures with care.

Honor richly deserved
What an wonderful article written by Ronnie Gallagher last week highlighting the outstanding basketball career of Maggie Rich at East Rowan High School! I completely agree with the obvious point that her number should be retired and she be placed amongst her other celebrated peers. She was named all state by the N.C. High School Athletic Association and deserves the appropriate recognition. What is the holdup? An oversight, or is it political? Either way, to do the right thing now is the only way to play.
