Letter to the editor: Kannapolis voters, don’t be fooled

Published 12:33 am Monday, October 16, 2017

We unfortunately have a Kannapolis City Council candidate that demonstrates his cluelessness continually by disparaging the efforts to remake our downtown into something every citizen would benefit from.

We currently have “Mom & Pop” businesses, Sunshine Asian Food, The Village Grille, Carolina Interiors and the Gem Theater. As mostly family oriented businesses, most of the employees are family members or close friends or kids. Small businesses are not typically job generators nor do they bring higher income levels. The type of growth projected will create many living spaces, bringing hundreds of new residents that will create a need for several different businesses to give the new residents and all of us choices for entertainment, dining, working, etc.

The negative garbage he is spewing will only hurt our town, not in any way, shape or form help. Voters, please do not be misled. We currently have a mayor and City Council that have vision and the courage to follow that vision. They have repeatedly stated there is no tax increase necessary to complete the project and when fully completed, may reduce the need for tax increases and may result in lowering them. I cannot fathom how anyone with any common sense cannot see the benefit that will result from the reinvigoration of our Center City.

Holding anti-growth rallies and spreading BS about the redevelopment is a disgrace and should disqualify anyone from consideration for your vote. Mayor Darrell Hinnant, council members Doug Wilson and Diane Berry deserve re-election and we have determined Chris Gordon is the best man to fill the open seat. We hope you are not fooled, will educate yourselves on our best choices and path and vote for these candidates in November.
