The Civil War was hard fought, with a great deal of honor on display by combatants of both sides. It is bad form for citizens of today to destroy or remove monuments erected in the post-war years to assuage the great grief of men, women, and children of both sides.

As to Robert E Lee, I hate to see him go, but if he must, simply get him off the public square onto a “safe space” of his own. I take no liking to William T. Sherman, a slaveholder, I believe, and would see him likewise sent to a less conspicuous location

In a way, we were all winners of this war, and all its honorable soldiers should be memorialized with dignity and respect.
