SALISBURY — The Historic Salisbury Foundation will present midsummer evening of musical entertainment Sunday on the Hall House lawn.
Located in the heart of the West Square Historic District, the Dr. Josephus W. Hall House will serve as a backdrop for the “Blankets and Bluegrass” concert from 6 to 8 p.m. The Hall House is at 226 S. Jackson St.
The concert will feature North Carolina bluegrass musicians. Concertgoers are invited to bring blankets, chairs and food.
Vivian Hopkins, president of the N.C. Bluegrass Association and a frequent performer at the Montgomery General Store in Historic Gold Hill on Friday nights, will emcee the Sunday concert.
Performers will include the local bands the Trailblazers and TenderGrass, both of which have made their marks in some of the largest bluegrass competitions in the state.
The Trailblazers recently brought home first place in the band competition at MerleFest. The Trailblazers have opened for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder and Blue Highway.
TenderGrass is an energetic group of young musicians including local favorites the Bemus Kids.
Those interested in historic preservation can arrive a little early and take a peek inside the Hall House, where docents will greet visitors and answer questions.
Dating back to 1820, the Hall House was built as classrooms for the Salisbury Female Academy. Maxwell Chambers acquired it for his residence in 1825. In 1859, Hall purchased the house and began to transform it into the grand Southern residence that stands today.
Historic Salisbury Foundation purchased the house from Hall’s great-granddaughter in 1972 and has opened it to the public since.
Craft beer and wine will be available for purchase, but concertgoers are also welcome to bring their own. A donation of $10 per person is suggested.
The foundation is asking for reservations for the concert. The online form is at www.historicsalisbury.org under the events tab.
