SALISBURY — Duke Energy crews worked Saturday afternoon and evening to restore power to significant portions of the Salisbury area along Statesville Boulevard, Woodleaf Road and U.S. 601.

As of 7:15 p.m. Saturday more than 4,000 Duke customers were affected, and Duke Energy estimated outages could last up to 11 p.m. Saturday.

On U.S. 70 (Statesville Boulevard), power was reported to be out as far west as West Rowan Middle School.

The company reports the cause as fallen limbs and trees on power lines. A tree came down Saturday afternoon close to 2:30 p.m. along Statesville Boulevard near Welch Road.
