Letters: Turnover in Granite Quarry

There is apparent discord at Granite Quarry town hall. Within the past few months, every experienced staffer has resigned. An employee already on the payroll was promoted to fill a supervisory position vacated by the retirement of a faithful career man. Within a few months, the new supervisor abruptly left that position.

Shortly afterward, the deputy town clerk left her position. She was soon followed by another person with over a decade of experience issuing building permits, etc. Last but not least, the town clerk resigned, leaving the office in Granite Quarry with no experienced professionals to assist taxpayers.

A new town manager took the place of a town manager who was abruptly dismissed by the aldermen and mayor

I don’t know what the official explanation would be for these resignations and/or dismissals but each of these capable, responsible workers reportedly went immediately to other jobs. I suspect the explanation would include: possible hostile work environment, bullying, threats, intimidation, micro-managing and just plain meanness. Meanwhile, Granite Quarry has lost many years of experience and dedication to other companies or agencies and the taxpayers are not receiving the services we pay for.

A May 22 email to Alderman Aaron Wilhelm regarding a proposed athletic field on Faith Road beside numerous active beehives is unanswered as of June 15. I am concerned regarding the possible liability of the town if someone allergic to bee stings is stung while attending a town-sanctioned event there. I also inquired regarding the town’s possible liability to the owner of the bee hives if we take away his livelihood. Those hives have been there for many decades.

And, no, I no longer attend town meetings for reasons I will not address here due to word count restrictions.

Editor’s note: Alderman Wilhelm said the Athletic Association has insurance and has agreed to keep activities at least 100 feet away from the hives.
