North High shows its generosity again
On Saturday, May 31, North Rowan High students, former students, staff and faculty sponsored a car wash/bake sale in my honor. I especially want to thank Dr. Sabo and the Science Department for all the work they did to organize the event. The car wash/bake sale and other contributions raised $2,592 to be donated to the Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter of the ALS Association. Thanks to them, friends, neighbors and family, our team raised $9,417 to help find a cure for ALS. I want to thank everyone who was involved in the fundraising.
The students, staff, and faculty at North are the most caring group of people that I have ever been associated with in my life. They have always given generously of their time and resources when asked. The generosity of my students always amazed me whenever they were asked to bring food for the “can drive” or donate money for other causes. Even though some may not be wealthy, they always donated more than their fair share. North Rowan’s students strongly value community service, as evidenced by their receiving prestigious scholarships such as the Morehead, Parks and, most recently, the Fulbright scholarship. Besides academic proficiency, these scholarships value community service as a critical component of the competition. North Rowan is one of the top schools in the county when it comes to earning these scholarships, compared to the other high schools. This is in spite of our perceived image within the community. Community service is a major component of these scholarships because all of the applicants have strong academic backgrounds, and our students are quick to volunteer.
I know a lot has been written recently about the circumstances at North, but you could not find a better family of students and faculty at any high school in Rowan County than at North Rowan.
Again, I want to thank everyone at North for everything they have done. My family at North Rowan High School is very special to me.

We want to thank the Salisbury Post for a wonderful evening at the Pops! This event is one of the most enjoyable evenings of the year in Salisbury. We know there is lots of hard work and lots of money behind an event of this magnitude. It brings the whole community together. Please keep bringing us this wonderful concert each year. It’s definitely a highlight for Salisbury!
