Obama’s cunning campaign is jumping the tracks
As I watch the Democratic presidential campaign evolve, it frightens me to hear the calculation and cunning ideas of Sen. Barack Obama.
He’s like a runaway train. He’s out of control, going down a dead-end street, with no idea of the concerns of the American people.
He’s making promises that he can’t fulfill, nor does he have the vision. He has tunnel vision; he sees only what he wants to see and hear.
What’s best for Obama is not best for the American people.
John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln are probably shaking their heads in disbelief regarding his shortsighted, self-centered ideals.
The only candidate with experience is Hillary Clinton.
Please don’t vote for a power-hungry person who very well may ruin the American dream by his vacant and selfish, egotistical ideals.

Crowd control questioned
On Tuesday I visited the Livingstone College campus to witness the probate, or “coming out,” show of a Greek letter fraternal organization. Coming-out shows are a highly popular tradition among African-American students, especially on the campuses of historically black colleges and universities. It is an exciting and important experience for young women and men, because it is a choice that can have a profound effect on their lives for many years to come. Once you become a member of a traditionally African-American Greek letter organization, it is a bond that you carry for life.
Unfortunately for the young men who were completing their rites of passage, the festivities were interrupted when local law enforcement officers arrived brandishing their police dogs and threatening to release gas into the small crowd of men, women and children who had gathered to see the coming out show. Visitors in the crowd were both surprised and confused because during the show that had at that time been going on for about an hour, there was no apparent reason for any police involvement, especially not for the massive number of units who responded.
I am appalled and sincerely offended by what I witnessed. It is unfair to the students who along with their parents pay tuition for them to attend that college to be treated like criminals. Crowd control on a college campus should be left to the campus police force, who I was told made the initial call to the local authorities. If those individuals are unable to handle a crowd of college kids, perhaps they should be dismissed, and a new force put into place.
To the three young men who didn’t get to complete their show: Congratulations.

Editor’s note: Salisbury Police Chief Mark Wilhelm said that officers went to the scene after receiving a call from Livingstone’s campus security about a fight involving weapons. Wilhelm said the crowd dispersed without incident, and no arrests were made.

Letters endorsing local candidates in the May 6 primary should be limited to 150 words and must be received in the Salisbury Post newsroom by 5 p.m. April 30.
