Local businessman and civic leader James “Jim” Greene has announced his Republican candidacy for the Rowan County Board of Commissioners.
Educated in Rowan County schools, Greene graduated from West Rowan High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Catawba College.
After college, Greene taught at Landis Elementary School.
In 1977, Greene and his father, Roy, began Greene Insurance Agency which is now part of Fisher Greene Insurance Agency.
Greene has been a member of the Civitan Club of Salisbury since 1978 — serving as president, a member of the board of directors and chairman of many club projects, including the “Spaghetti Feast.”
“The citizens of Rowan County have allowed me to make a living, raise my family here and enjoy the benefits of our wonderful county,” Greene said. “I have served on PTA boards, coached little league, raised money for charitable causes and paid taxes for forty years. I feel that my attachment to the community and my business background gives me a perspective and voice that is not represented currently.”
In 2006, Greene was awarded the Civitan Honor Key for years of continuous service.
Greene was appointed to the Rowan County Economic Development Commission Board of Directors in 2008.
“This work has shown me that we have the ability to attract jobs and help local businesses expand in Rowan County,” Greene said.
A longtime county resident, Greene lives with his wife, Karen, in Cleveland.
“With three children and seven grandchildren all living in Rowan County, I am deeply committed to the progress of our community,” Greene said.
