Time for street lighting improvements

Several years ago, sections of Rowan County immediately west of the Salisbury city limits were annexed into the city. Pursuant to that annexation, the residents of the Westcliffe development petitioned the city to bring the street lights up to city specifications. This was done successfully and has been very helpful.

Recently, however, it has become evident that other sections of the annexed area need the same improvement, specifically the length of Statesville Boulevard from Jake Alexander Boulevard to Majolica Road and perhaps even to Enon Church Road.

Those who travel that stretch of highway regularly find the lighting totally inadequate at important intersections and in need of being brought up to city specifications.

A level-headed approach

Thank you, Mr. Sam Morgan, for your beautiful letter of Jan. 21. It was extremely well-written, fair and just.

There is a vast difference between voicing an opinion and being opinionated, especially when an individual (Madonna) uses profanity and vulgarity as well as overt threats of violence to dictate that opinion.

Thank you again and know that our country is safe with level-headed, intelligent people such as yourself who have much insight regarding this adventure called life and our ability (or lack thereof) to live and thrive together.

Bathrooms a convinient excuse for cancellation

Editor’s note: The writer is responding to an article about a national meeting moved out of Salisbury because of HB 2.

The bathroom bill again? I guess they did not see Major League Soccer is wanting to move to Charlotte with a huge new facility. I think the bathroom bill excuse is getting very old. It’s only used when it’s convenient for whoever finds a better deal elsewhere. Could the crime in Salisbury be a better excuse” But, seeing it’s black on black crime, well, that don’t fit the template.

Good job, comrade Trump

What’s the fuss with President Trump reorganizing his National Security Council? He’s just following and improving the time-tested old Soviet model where a political appointee or officer can “trump” the line military officer in decision making. He’s improved it by eliminating the military and intelligence officers whose input really isn’t needed anyway. Good job, comrade Trump!
