SALISBURY — This week, Sacred Heart hosted its yearly science fair and the Rowan County Science Fair.

In previous years, Sacred Heart has been joined by North Hills Christian School and Salisbury Academy, but the two did not participate this year, making Sacred Heart the only school in Rowan County to participate in the Rowan County Science Fair and N.C. Science and Engineering Fair.

“So Sacred Heart decided we still wanted to hold a Science Fair on our own and, from there, our kids would go straight to regionals, because no one else was participating from Rowan County. We are excited about our STEM (STREAM) curriculums and our integrating learning,” Robin Fisher, director of marketing and communications, said.

Winners from Sacred Heart will continue onto the regional level competition at UNC Charlotte on Feb. 17 and 18. Winners from the Regional Fair will compete at the N.C. Science and Engineering Fair at Meredith College in Raleigh on March 24 and 25.

Middle school winners: Nick Antosek, Peter Chaney, Ben Childress, Jake Denhard, Riley Dillon, Luke Graeber, Will Koontz, Rachel McCullough, John Sentilles, Ella Trainor, Sutton Webb and Will Webb.

Elementary school winners: Mary Kathryn Aycock, Mayla Brinkley, Delaney Fisher, George Miller, Skyy Ruben, Gisele Tennent and Jake Trainor.
