A motorcycle rider was flown to a Winston-Salem hospital following a crash Tuesday afternoon on Stokes Ferry Road.

Around 5 p.m., a caller reported the rider was lying in the road after a wreck that a witness said occurred when the motorcyclist struck a car.

Emergency responders found the man still lying in the road when they arrived and soon determined he needed to be flown to a trauma center. The nature of his injuries was unclear Tuesday evening.

Authorities blocked traffic in the 5600 block of Stokes Ferry Road between Oddie and Barger roads for about 40 minutes while medical responders tended to the motorcycle rider. He was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center by ambulance, and from there was to be flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, according to emergency radio communications.
