Parts of Rowan County could see snow and ice tonight as a winter storm moves into the Piedmont.

The National Weather Service on Saturday issued a winter weather watch for potential snow that could affect Rowan County tonight. The total accumulation of winter precipitation — snow and sleet included — is projected to be one inch, according to the National Weather Service.

The winter storm watch is in effect from 1 a.m. through 7 p.m. on Monday.

On Sunday night, Rowan County could see light snow.

Precipitation is expected to slowly mix with and change into sleet by Monday morning. Rowan County would also see a spurt of freezing rain, according to the National Weather Service.

By early Monday afternoon, precipitation is expected to transition to rain because of warmer temperatures, which will reach the mid 30s by Monday afternoon.

In preparation for the winter weather, Department of Transportation crews on Saturday started spraying brine on Rowan County roads.
