“Rachel Carson’s Environmental Legacy for North Carolina” will be the topic for a presentation by the president and CEO of the Rachel Carson Council (RCC) at the Center for the Environment facility on the Catawba College campus. The 6:30 presentation on Thursday, Feb. 11, will be followed by a book signing.

Dr Robert Musil, head of the RCC, is former executive director and CEO of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Physicians for Social Responsibility. A senior fellow and adjunct professor of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University, he has also been a visiting scholar at the Churches’ Center for Theology and Public Policy at Wesley Theological Seminary, where he taught about religious responses to global warming and security threats.

A graduate of Yale and Northwestern universities and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, he has been a visiting honorary fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of Pembroke College at Cambridge University

Musil specializes in a variety of issues, including global security, sustainability and health. He is the author of numerous articles and the books, “Hope for a Heated Planet: How Americans are Fighting Global Warming and Building a Better Future” and “Rachel Carson and Her Sisters: Extraordinary Women Who Have Shaped America’s Environment.” His upcoming book, which will be published this year, is “Washington in Springtime: A Nature Journal for a Changing Capital.”

He will be available to sign his book, “Rachel Carson and Her Sisters” after the presentation at the Center.
