The liberal war on the Second Amendment

The recent article in the Salisbury Post written by Steve and Cokie Roberts, titled “The conservative war on science” leaves out a few of the numbers related to gun violence.

How many people were killed by government genocide during the last century?

• Ottoman Turkey: 1915-17, 1.5 million

• Nazi Germany and occupied Europe: 1933-45, 13 million

• China: 1947-52, 1966-76, 60 million

• Uganda: 1971-79, 600,000

Panhandler gets around

In response to “Beware of Panhandlers who target veterans” (Tuesday letters):

Thank you, Barbara Price, for bringing to our attention the individual who approached you asking for $25 because his car had over heated and he and his wife needed to return to the VA.

Your description fits an individual who approached me with almost the same story as I was returning a shopping cart at Aldi Foods. Your personal description of this man also fits. He said his car overheated, he and his wife had just left the VA and they needed $25 that would go a long way toward getting them home. I offered to call the police, assuring the man that we could find him some help, and that often the American Red Cross could possibly help him. He immediately started backing off and refused my offer. When he acted so strangely, I got into my car and got my cell phone out intending on calling the police, but when I looked out my rear view mirror the man was gone. Shoppers beware!

I also would like to thank our police for everything they do for us. Where in the world would we be without them?

Warriors merit public help

I am a retired Navy Reserve captain and have great respect for our vets and do vote on their behalf, but I don’t understand why taking care of our wounded warriors has been reduced to charity donations.

This is a government responsibility that all Americans should join in, even if we have to reduce what we give to other countries; many of them don’t even like us. It is just common sense that we take care of our own first.
