The Salisbury City Council decided to award revitalization grants to two companies with buildings in the Salisbury area.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the council heard presentations about each company. Bonded Logistics, Inc., a third-party logistics company that provides supply chain management solutions, leased space in the former Alcoa building on Airport Road.

The Industrial Revitalization Program Grant was created to encourage projects that will help improve underutilized corridors, encourage new and existing businesses to locate in older and less functional, vacant buildings and enhance, upgrade and stabilize vacant properties.

With the grant, the company will be able to renovate the property and expand its operations and create 17 new positions.

JP Industrial Products, a nationwide plastics recycling company, was also awarded the same grant. The company purchased the former General Electric building on Old Concord Road. With the grant, the company will be able to make the building more suitable for operations and allow for the employment of 20 individuals.

Both one-time grants were for $25,000.

Mayor Paul Woodson opened the meeting up for public comment and no one spoke. Both grants were approved unanimously.

“It’s great to have someone in that building. It’s been there for a long time, and we’re certainly happy that you’re opening it back up and starting production,” Woodson said about JP Industrial Products.

In other business, the council:
