Paw Around Downtown on 1st Friday

5 – 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6: Bring your pooch out on 1st Friday to enjoy shopping downtown. A list of pet-friendly locations will be provided on a walking map. Stay to watch a live dog show performance by Dare Devil Dogs on East Fisher Street. Also enjoy free trolley rides, horse and carriages, face paint, kids activities, and more. Come early for the Livingstone College pep rally in the lot besides K-Dee’s Jewelers to celebrate the fifth annual Commemorative Classic Football Game on Nov. 7, followed by the Blue Bear Crawl in downtown. The Friends of RPL annual book sale is this weekend. The members only Preview Sale (memberships may be purchased at the door) is Friday from 6-8 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday from 1-4 p.m.;Monday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Walk With a Doc Saturday

CONCORD — Saturday, Nov. 7: Dr. Kevin Kruse from Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute will discuss sudden cardiac death and teach hands-only CPR, followed by a stroll through the park. Walk With A Doc is open to MURDOCK Study participants and the public. Duke University’s MURDOCK Study, which is based at the NC Research Campus in Kannapolis, and the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute cohost the event on the first Saturday. Walkers meet at the Neal Davis Gazebo in Les Myers Community Park, 130 Lawndale Ave. SE, in Concord. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. and the free event starts at 9 a.m. Participants walk at their own pace.

Jazz vespers Saturday

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St. in Downtown Salisbury, will host Jazz Vespers at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Chapel. Musicians this year include the Larry Draughn Group with vocalist Jay Renee.

Veterans Day concert with Rockie Lynn Mooresville

The Town of Mooresville in conjunction with PVAC: Piedmont Veterans Assistance Council will present a free Veterans Day concert on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Mooresville Town Hall Lawn, from 4 until 8 p.m. featuring the music of United States Army Veteran, singer-songwriter and North Carolina native, Rockie Lynne. The concert is part of a six day Veterans Day Celebration sponsored by the Town of Mooresville. Admission is free and open to the public. Enjoy music, food vendors and downtown shopping in historic Main Street in Mooresville. As a veteran of the United States Army (82nd Airborne, Ft. Bragg), Rockie is often requested to perform for patriotic and military events. Mooresville’s second Veterans Celebration kicks off on Monday, Nov. 9. Spanning six days, the celebration features ceremonies, a session sponsored by The American Legion focusing on specific issues confronting to­day’s veterans, a job fair and of course, a parade. Well-known Salisbury actors in Stanly County musical 

ALBEMARLE — Several performers well known to Salisbury audiences will be starring in The Uwharrie Players next musical presentation, Stephen Sondheim’s “Company,” opening Nov. 13 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. Tim Campbell, who was recently seen in The St. Thomas Players production of “A Doll’s House,” will play Harry. Alexa Hendrickson and Lizzie Medlin, who played leading roles in the Piedmont Players production of “The Little Mermaid,” will play Susan and Marta, respectively. Caroline Stephenson, a frequent teacher for The Piedmont Players’ youth offerings, takes on the role of April.
