Downed tree knocks out power to over 260 Salisbury residents

Duke Energy officials say a tree fell down at 223 Confederate Ave., causing a power outage to 269 customers early this morning.

The tree fell onto Duke Energy equipment, damaging it, officials said, however it is not clear what type of equipment was damaged. The first reports of outages were made around 6:30 a.m. and crews have been on the scene working to restore power to area residents.

The affected areas in and around the Country Club and City Park to include Confederate Avenue, Annandale Avenue, Maxwell Street, Bethel Drive, Sidney Circle as well as the Food Lion on Mahaley Avenue.

Some residents have already had their power restored, but Duke officials say power is estimated to be restored by 4 p.m. A spokesman said it could be sooner or sometime after 4 p.m. when all power is expected to be restored.
