Stoneman’s Raid (1865) in the Yadkin Valley will be the theme for the 2015 Yadkin Valley History and Genealogy Fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., Yadkinville United Methodist Church, 204 W. Main St., Yadkinville.

Union Gen. George Stoneman’s mission was to destroy anything of military value to prevent the retreating Confederate Army from starting a guerilla war in the mountains. There are many stories yet to be told of the effect on the civilians along the route.

Speakers include Chris Hartley, author of “Stoneman’s Raid 1865,” Ed and Sue Curtis representing the Salisbury Prison, and representatives from counties where Stoneman’s Raiders went.

For a registration form, go to “Yadkin Valley Historical Association.” For more information, contact Andrew L. Mackie, (336) 428-8471, or andrewmackie@yadtel.net.
