SALISBURY – The first Saturday in June, downtown Salisbury is host to thousands of people attending the annual Pops at the Post concert. Pops at the Post is a completely free community event, featuring contemporary and classic music performed by the Salisbury-Rowan Symphony, led by Maestro David Hagy. This year’s concert is Saturday, June 6. As usual, the concert will begin at sunset. Before the concert, the Salisbury Swing Band will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Food and refreshments will be available from on-site vendors. Pops at the Post T-shirts and caps will also be available for sale. The Sunday before the concert, a parking map will be published in a special section of the Salisbury Post.

The first Pops at the Post in 2005 was part of the Salisbury Post’s centennial celebration at the Salisbury Post loading dock near the intersection of Church and West Innes streets in downtown Salisbury. So many people came out to see the performance that Pops at the Post has been turned into an annual community event and a 501(c)(3) charity organization.

Past performances have included music from “Star Wars,” The Beatles, the Beach Boys, famous musicals and movies, plus classics like “The 1812 Overture” and “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Generous sponsors and donors have contributed to keep Pops at the Post a completely free event. The 2015 presenting co-sponsors are: Salisbury Post, Gerry Hurley, and Fred and Alice Stanback. As of this release, the sponsors are F&M Bank, Duke Energy, The Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation, city of Salisbury, Cloninger Ford/Toyota/Scion, First Bank, Fisher Street Interiors, Friends of the Salisbury Community Foundation, Ketner Foundation, The Post Group, Novant, Bill and Nancy Stanback, Trinity Oaks, Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, KKA Architecture, Bud and Betty Mickle (in memory of Foster Owen) and Taylor Clay Products.

Pops at the Post accepts donations throughout the year. To make a donation, mail to: Pops at the Post, P.O. Box 4639, Salisbury, NC 28145 or donate online via The Network for Good. During the show, donations are taken via “pass the hat.”
