From personal experience: VA hospital gives good care

Let’s accentuate the positive and eliminate some negatives.

Newspapers in our area and statewide tell tales of the long waits at our veterans’ hospitals, some declaring that mega-bucks thrown to correct the problems are in vain.

On a positive note, my scheduled appointment this morning at the Bill Hefner Medical Center, Department of Veterans Affairs, Salisbury, was, as it has been in the past years, on-time, and my primary care provider was in tune to my medical concerns and had my records in front of her.

My appointment was at 8 a.m., I arrived at 7:40; a valet took my car. I was escorted in, had my examination and Dr. Bale’s recommendations; the valet returned my car at 8:50 and I was on my way home.

A very positive experience.

Literally, a day of caring

While Trinity Living Center provides care to elderly and disabled adults each day, we love when are able to give our participants a little something extra.

A few weeks ago, Rowan County United Way hosted its annual Day of Caring, in which TLC was one of the recipients. The group of gentlemen that spent the day with us came from the Rowan-Salisbury School System, donating their time and talents to make TLC a better place. Not only were they friendly and caring, but they really put their hearts into the job they were doing. They built and installed a large bulletin board for the activities department, pressure washed our courtyard and stained our new planters in preparation for our participants to do some spring planting.

The participants and staff at TLC were delighted to see the finished products and were most appreciative of the volunteers and the United Way for providing them.

We would like to give the United Way a big thank you for once again supporting Trinity Living Center, not only financially, but in this generous community project that you plan and put on each year. Projects like these, which are important to enriching our participants’ lives and the enjoyment they have while here, may not have been possible if not for such great generosity. We are proud to be a part of the Rowan County United Way family!

This past Sunday my 86-year-old mother’s wallet was stolen at Cracker Barrel, as she was walking around in the store, waiting to be seated. Mother didn’t know her wallet was missing until she went to check out.

While my mother was still eating, a purchase was made with her card at Target in Kannapolis for over $600.

My sister, who was with my mom at the time, made all the necessary calls to protect my mother’s assets and to the police.  That is when she found out that a purchase had been made.

Moments later, whoever this lowlife is, tried to purchase something else for $400 plus.  That did not go through.

My mother is more concerned about all the old pictures she had. If someone happens to locate this wallet, please call 704-633-9277, as I am sure the thief took what they wanted and tossed the wallet.

To the thief:  You will be caught because I am sure this is not the first time you have done this. I hope you don’t have a moment’s rest.
