A Rowan woman remains in the the county jail after authorities say she shot her boyfriend in the face at his China Grove home.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Jeri Furr Simpson, 61, with felony domestic assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Investigators were called to the 44000 block of N.C. 152 West on Saturday where a man had been shot in the face.

During the investigation, officials determined there was an argument of some kind between Simpson and Timothy Hatley, 60, a report said.

He had several wounds to his head and Simpson told deputies Hatley had beat and choked her earlier in the day. However, officials did not see any marks or other evidence that Simpson had been abused.

Investigators said Simpson gave conflicting stories including that Hatley had taken a shower and became mad when she wore his shirt. She told officials Hatley broke her cane, but they did not find a cane. She also told authorities Hatley had been drinking and shot himself.

There were two guns, a 32-caliber pistol and a .38 Special, which were fired, officials said.

Simpson admitted that she shot Hatley and it was “either him or her,” a report said.

She remains in the Rowan County jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
