Tips for drivers on N.C. 150

I travel N.C. 150 or Mooresville Road every day, and what I see indicates there are lots of folks out there who need to learn the rules of the road and understand line markings on the road.

First of all, when traveling toward Jake Alexander, when the road turns to three lanes, do not automatically get in the left lane. That first broken line indicates a turning lane into the trailer park and if you’re idiot enough to think you continue straight, do not blow your horn at me when I get in the left lane at the correct time.

Secondly, when turning left onto Lincolnton Road, the middle lane is a turning lane, not a lane for you to speed up and bypass everyone heading toward Jake.

Finally, for those traveling from Jake down N.C. 150, there is no turning lane at the first driveway into Food Lion. The center lane arrows are only pointing left which means only get in that lane if you intend to get to KFC or McDonald’s. Therefore, do not blow your horn at me or show me your lovely finger when I am making my way into the grocery store.

Drivers, watch out for deer

The speed limit on Heilig Road coming toward Faith Road is 55 mph. There is a deer crossing sign on that road. The state or the city have been doing work there and has planted new grass beside the road in a certain place. Deer come out at night and are feeding on the new grass.

We have seen as many as four deer in that one spot feeding. Soon I know a deer will run out onto that road and will either cause a serious accident to someone or be killed itself.

There should be more deer crossing signs and a lower speed limit along that stretch of road. A 45 mph limit would be best for that stretch of highway.

I saw a deer lying in the median on the road close to the fire department on Julian Road about a month ago. It was so injured that it had to be shot and killed, and I saw it happen. The driver did not stop. They were fortunate not to have been seriously injured.

Of course, being a woman, I was so sad in my heart that I just broke down and cried. Many people stopped out of concern for the deer.

Please put signs up and change the speed limit in that area, too, and warn people. Many people have been killed or seriously injured by hitting a deer. Please watch out for deer anywhere you see a deer crossing sign.
