The Disabled American Veterans’ Department of North Carolina continues its effort to establish a local chapter of the DAV for Salisbury.
The national office of the DAV requires 25 new applicants be registered with life membership dues paid in full before an application for a new charter may be considered. Currently, the total stands at 19 qualified applicants.
Four area members of DAV are actively recruiting the required 25 new applicants.
Those four include DAV Department Junior Vice Commander, Steve Wharton of Chapter 95, Monroe; DAV District 8 Commander Ed Furr of Chapter 27, Concord; DAV Chapter 27 member Martha Baker of Salisbury; and DAV Department Service Officer at Salisbury VAMC, Mickey Drye of Albemarle Chapter 12.
” We’re within sight of our goal,” stated Drye. “We hope to obtain six more applicants by President’s Day, 2010.”
The 25 will be charter members whose names will be engraved upon the official charter of the new chapter.
DAV is a 1.2 million member-strong, non-profit veterans’ service organization, founded in 1920 and chartered by US Congress in 1932 as the official voice of America’s disabled veterans.
