China Grove 1st Baptist offers Christmas meal

First Baptist Church in China Grove has special plans for Christmas Day.
Volunteers from the church are preparing a meal for all those who might want to attend. There is no charge for the meal, which will be offered from 4 -7 p.m.
All ages within the church are involved, from children to seniors. Main Street Mission and other churches are helping First Baptist to spread the word. Planners anticipate the possibility of feeding as many as 400 people.
The menu will consist of ham, turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, green beans, corn, rolls, tea, and dessert with coffee.
Food for the meal has been donated by Food Lion and IFC. Church members, led by Mark and Tim Honeycutt, will prepare and serve the food.
Mark and Tim had the idea for the Meal of Hope.
Mark said, “I don’t really know what to expect. We are stepping out in faith that God will use us as his instrument to minister to the people of the China Grove area. We truly want to glorify God with this undertaking.”
Mark’s wife, Norma, has also been instrumental in the planning and says the group hopes to turn no one away.
Other planners include Pastor Steve Wilson and Youth Minister Matt Jackson.
The meal is for those who are struggling to feed themselves and their families due to the tough economic times or their own circumstances.
Mark Honeycutt knows there are many who are depressed or suffering during the Christmas season. He wants to offer an uplifting event to those who may have lost a loved one, are out of work or have their own personal issues.
“If we can just share the hope that the Christ child brought on the first Christmas day, our efforts will all be a success,” Mark says.
During the meal, there will be a presentation of the life of Jesus as well as musical entertainment.
Each child will receive a gift bag.
Church members hope everyone in attendance will share a meaningful fellowship that will leave a lasting impression.
