A man who was a shooting victim Friday night in Kannapolis was arrested Monday on drug and counterfeiting charges.

Pedro Romero Amaro, 36, of 1303 Rental Drive, Kannapolis, was placed under $250,000 bond Monday after Kannapolis Police charged him with possession of five or more counterfeit instruments.

Amaro allegedly had 109 counterfeit 20-dollar bills in his possession.

He also faces charges of possession with the intent to sell and distribute cocaine and marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia (digital scales and baggies) and maintaining a dwelling for keeping and selling a controlled substance.

His female companion, Angelica Besies Martinez, 32, of the same address, was arrested Saturday on the same charges.

Kannapolis Police arrested Ray Lee Ross, 46, of 145 Beverly Road, Rockwell, for attempted murder Friday morning after Ross allegedly shot Amaro in the head with a .22-caliber rifle. The wound was not serious. Amaro received treatment at NorthEast Medical Center.

Reports said Ross also assaulted Martinez, trying to shoot the woman as they struggled.

Ross was charged with two counts of attempted murder after the Friday morning incident.

After Ross was in jail because of the attempted murder charges, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged him with murder in the killing earlier in the week of Henry Arthur Aldridge, 54, of 1975 Michelle Drive, Kannapolis.

Aldridge was found dead on his living room floor Jan. 29.

Evidence found at the attempted murder scene linked Ross to the murder, according to reports.

Reports Monday said Amaro had 18 grams of cocaine and 285 grams of marijuana in his possession, besides the counterfeit bills.

Martinez also was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $250,000 bond after her arrest over the weekend.

Amaro’s first appearance in court will be Wednesday morning.
