The 2009 Rowe McNeeley Animal Science Award winner is Beverly Hampton of Mount Ulla. Hampton, the daughter of Henry and Cynthia Hampton, is a junior at West Rowan High School.
Hampton is actively involved in West Rowan FFA, where she has served as an officer and competed in numerous career development events, including Ag Sales, Parliamentary Procedure and Poultry Evaluation.
Her outside of school activities include working at the Lazy 5 Ranch and exhibiting lambs and meat goats throughout North Carolina.
Hampton’s achievements include Grand Champion Meat Goat Wether at the 2009 North Carolina State Fair, Grand Champion Meat Goat Wether at the 2009 Dixie Classic Fair, Grand Champion Market Lamb at the 2009 North Carolina Mountain State Fair, Reserve Champion Market Lamb at the 2008 North Carolina Mountain State Fair, and numerous champion market lambs and breeding ewes at the Rowan County Fair and Allegheny County Fair. In addition, Beverly has received numerous meat goat and sheep showmanship awards, plus she has exhibited the Grand and Reserve Champion Broiler Pen of Three at the Rowan County Fair. Beverly is also the recipient of the Jim Graham Premier Junior Exhibitor at the 2009 Rowan County Fair for her numerous outstanding entries.
The Rowe McNeeley Animal Science Award is sponsored by the Salisbury Kiwanis Club and is awarded annually at Farm City Day in conjunction with Rowan County Cooperative Extension.
