China Grove father, son get into hot water with sheriff's deputies

A 65-year-old China Grove man was charged with assaulting a Rowan County sheriff’s deputy Thursday in an incident off Old Beatty Ford Road.
Reports said Floyd Wayne Propst of 2185 Old Beatty Ford Road, China Grove, put a choke hold on Deputy J.E. Roach and hit the officer in the face during the deputy’s investigation of shots fired at 2270 Old Beatty Ford Road.
Deputies also charged Propst’s son, Mark Wayne Propst, 36, of 2115 Old Beatty Ford Road, China Grove, with discharging a weapon into occupied property, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer. He allegedly discharged a .45-caliber handgun into a 2006 Chevrolet pickup occupied by Terry Lynn Shaunfield.
He also is accused of interfering with the arrest of his father by shoving Roach and Deputy W.E. Wagoner.
Authorities placed Floyd Propst under $75,000 bond and Mark Propst under $5,000 bond.
In addition to the assault on a government official or employee, Floyd Propst was charged with resisting a public officer.
